Kinja'd!!!

I think I just may win the prize for shittiest night tonight(humble brag but not really). Why, you may or may not ask? We just may have lost 2nd gear in the 911 tonight. Two days after picking it up from the shop after not driving it for a year...Limped home shifting from 1st to 3rd. ;_;

No grinding or bangs or loud noises. It simply would not stay in 2nd.

I am not not deterred from going to C&C in the morning, however. I’m just praying it’s just syncros and nothing else....

That bites. Still, it could always be worse.

(I’m good at cheering people up)

Eeeeeeehhh.........This isn’t a game where someone wins. But yeah, that’s pretty bad. If you don’t mind, I’ll take your dirnk for you. Might make it easier tomorrow morning to do the brakes on my FiST so I can do a track day this week. But not before going out for a drive tomorrow to honor Jules.

This is a game where everyone loses to win to lose and so forth, but yes. It’s not the worst thing that could happen, but 2nd gear is my favorite gear to drive in. :(

What’s a dirnk? Anyways, you should come down to WW and cruise with us for Jules.

‘Tis true. It could be worse, I just wish it was something else....

Like 4th or 5th gear? The gears rarely ever used? :-/

A dirnk is what happens when you’ve already had a few drinks. And I might find my way out there tomorrow. You never know.......I need to get out of town because of personal reasons. And Brookes murder last year at this time is only half of it.....

Umm....who’s Brookes, or Brooke? And you’re more than welcome to stop and visit, grab a bite and whatnot.

2nd - the most used gear - is often the 1st to go. See what I did there?

Coulda been reverse. That would really suck. As long as you rev it up in first, you should be fine.

Indeed...Why couldn’t it be opposite and be least used gears to go? Then no one would complain about not being able to use 4th or 5th. :/

What do you mean rev it up in first?? But if reverse went out, I could have people push me like racecar, because racecar.....Oh wait....-_-

Check the shifter alignment, and that the coupler under the cover ahead of the back seats isn’t loose, it can induce shifting issues as well.

Since you’re going to be shifting straight to third, you don’t want to lug it too hard.

Not driving it for 1 year?? why??

As far as second gear goes, it’s the “furthest gear” from the engine. If it jumps out of gear, it might be due to worn out silent blocks (urethane bushing used on engine mounts). When used and worn out, Porsches 2nd gear starts jumping out of gear all but itself.

If you hold the gear in place yourself, does it do it? (By pulling hard on the shifter to hold it in place. Try it if you can to see if it stays in gear)

Also does it do it when you’re accelerating or does it jump out of gear when let go off the gas pedal?

What about 4th? Does it do it there too?

My Packard has also an unusable 2nd gear (due a missing tooth) and I’m pretty familiar not using one gear. So I think you should just sell your 911 to me ridiculously cheap.

My friend has a porsche 928 with no second gear. Well it has second but it’s a dogleg and reverse lock out is broken and it centers between 4th and 5th. Finding second is doable while parked but scary as hell while driving. ‘Is it going to be second or reverse? Second or reverse?... Fuck it third it is!’

... no offense, but I don’t think losing a gear in a car means you had the shittiest night here.

It could always be worse.

You cold be a commoner in the 12th century who shuffles around stones for a living, feels the need to not have sex with his wife because he can’t read Latin, discovered his kids just contracted meningitis, and is dealing with an infection in his foot that none of his century’s medical technology can cure.

Yea the poor Oppo who’s fiancé just up and left him I think takes the cake. That was a year destroyer right there.

My ‘88 Camry wagon 5M lost 2nd just out of warranty - had to prove to Toyota that it wasn’t my driving before they reluctantly paid for 1/2 the rebuild.

I’m gonna check that first. It should be the least costly and all around simplest thing to do.

If I try holding it in place and letting off the clutch, it grinds ever so slightly. I put it in second when shifting from first while accelerating, let out the clutch and it simply pops out. and speak of the devil, 4th gear started doing that this morning too. -_-

Man this is terrible stuff. Don’t worry though your story was #1 the worst in car related sadness yesterday. An entire year of waiting just for something else to go wrong.

OK then it’s nothing bad at all :)

Maybe a 100$ fix at any shop. It’s normal that the 4th starts doing it too, that’s why I asked. It’s just your engine moving too much due to the engine mounts bushings being worn out. It’s really nothing bad at all.

Get new front and back ones change them and you’re good to go.

Cheers,

Flavien
